In this 14th issue is an original article on Dare to Dream. Dare to Dream!God doesn’t believe in your littleness, why should you??!! (A spiritual saying) Whatever you can do, or dream you can do, do it. Boldness has genius, power and magic in it, begin it now!! (Goethe – German philosopher) Life is either a daring adventure or nothing (Helen Keller) Follow your bliss! (Joseph Campbell – professor of mythology). To live an ordinary life is to basically play it safe – have your arms wrapped around the tree trunk of security. No risk, no reward. One’s focus is on the external world, the world of people, places and things. It can be relatively easy to carve out a life of basic security in this world. A good paying job, decent friends, an ok marriage, kids, house, pets etc. It can be somewhat satisfying but is it fulfilling? The above platitudes speak of another life entirely. Where does this life come from? It does not come from the external world. It comes from the internal world made up of our beliefs, feelings, thoughts, spiritual self and of course our dreams. Most people (not all) give up on their dreams at an early age and end up settling for less. John Bradshaw the Family Systems Therapist who popularised the saying “the inner child” back in the 90’s said the 2 greatest tragedies in a person’s life are going to their grave not knowing who they are (on the inside) and not doing what they love. If we were not encouraged to do what we love to do as youngsters and to follow our dreams, it can be rather challenging to change course when we become adults. Change is possible and is the only thing that is constant in our universe. It takes courage and faith to follow our dreams and to do what we love. This has a direct impact on our self esteem. We feel infinitely better about ourselves when we follow our bliss. Life was never meant to be a struggle. We honour life and are loyal to the best of ourselves by doing what we love. How can we change course? Where do we start? A Chinese saying goes something like this “a journey of a thousand miles begins with just one step”. Take baby steps. 1). Keep a journal and write down what you’ve always wanted to do. No editing please! If it seems unreal or completely impractical write it down anyway. 2). Do Artist Pages. This is a creative process by Julia Cameron the author of The Artists Way. When you wake up in the morning write 3 pages. Empty your mind. It can be disjointed, not make any sense, be a bunch of lists that you have to do that day, be negative, complaining, whatever. This is a very simple, yet powerful process to give voice to your ego mind or inner critic. By doing so you make room for your creative mind to have a voice. Pay attention to this voice and write down in your journal what it says. 3). Do self esteem affirmations. This is a very powerful method of self change. Please visit my website and click on affirmations for a guide on how to help you change to a more positive mindset. 4). Make a Vision Board and put it up on your bedroom wall where you can see it every day. This can be a very fun exercise to do and will help you focus on what you really want out of life. Please visit my website and click on affirmation posters for a how to guide. No matter where you are at it is very possible to change course. Change can be upsetting to yourself, family and friends. You must trust and be loyal to yourself and your own life. With great risk, comes great reward. Begin the change now!
Thanks so much for taking the time to read this original article.
